Part Time ( 3/4 days a week) Permanent Contract
Salary: £22,000

Milton’s Cottage is the only surviving home of John Milton (1608-1674), one of England’s greatest
poets and political thinkers. This is the home in which he completed his masterpiece, Paradise Lost. This Grade I
listed 16th century house is now a museum of his work and times, run by Milton’s Cottage Trust, a charity dedicated to preserving this unique historic building in the picturesque village of Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire

Following the retirement of the Curator, The Trustees of the cottage are now looking to embrace a more
encompassing and commercial role for the management of the Museum and its activities.
A new position of Business Director has been created to achieve the Trustee’s strategic goals.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and entrepreneurial person who is able to promote and market this unique historic house museum in order to raise its profile and significantly increase the numbers of visitors. The role will also include orchestrating financial development and income generation substantially increase the income of the Cottage. building relationships both in person and via social media will also be a key part of the role.

The Business Director will need to appreciate the historic, political and literary importance of John Milton, and to articulate his contributions to our world today.

Accommodation could be provided to the Business Director and their partner in the Cottage. The successful candidate will-have a mixture of interests and skills, as well as be adaptable, articulate, and creative..
