The Great North Museum is seeking a highly effective manager to lead the Museum and continue to develop its public programme. The successful candidate will ensure that collections are cared for and made available, whilst sustaining a strong commercial focus so that the museum can continue to meet its income generation targets.
Since opening in May 2009 the Great North Museum: Hancock has become one of the North East’s most successful museums, attracting more than 3 million visitors in that time. Managed by Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums, on behalf of Newcastle University, the museum houses outstanding collections relating to Natural Sciences, Archaeology, World Cultures and Egyptology, belonging to the Natural History Society of Northumbria and the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle upon Tyne. The Museum showcases cutting edge research alongside a popular and successful events, exhibitions and activities programme.
