Keswick Museum & Art Gallery was the first purpose built museum in Cumbria, opening in 1898. It has been managed by the local authority in the past, but re-opened in 2014 after a complete refurbishment and is now run by a self sufficient Trust with a large group of local volunteers, a small staff and a lot of community support.
They are developing their board to reflect the challenges they face within this new business model, with new skills required to better fundraise, market and develop new income streams. This post, however, reflects the need to care for and develop the use of the museums collections.
They are looking for a person with significant experience of caring for and developing collections who can support staff and volunteers in strategic planning and champion collections care and access at board level; someone who can bring broad knowledge and experience of contemporary and innovative practices.
Please contact Sue Mackay for an initial discussion, visit to the museum and possible guest attendance at a meeting. Following this, please be prepared to present to the board in person or in writing: what attracts you to the post; what skills and experience you bring to the post; what innovative ideas you might suggest for consideration in future planning meetings. Decision by board communicated by the Chair.
