Due to popular demand, on 4 February 2016 at the Harris Museum & Art Gallery, MDNW are hosting one final numismatic workshop focusing on the topic of medieval coinage. The event, led by Carl Savage Bsc MA FSA Scot PCIfA, will include an introduction to medieval English coinage from 1158-1544 and will teach you how to do basic identifications.
The day will include the following topics:
- A brief summary of the history and development of the English coinage during the medieval period
- Basic introduction to medieval coins
– Basic layout
– How to measure the die axis
– Crown styles
There will also be a more detailed look at the classifications and identification features of various short cross and long cross coinage of the medieval period. A handling collection will be provided of issues where possible.
