The Science Museum Group is taking a new approach to making its collections more accessible and better appreciated by audiences. Joining up teams across four museums, a new strategy for collection services places a major emphasis on digitisation, together with achieving greater impact for the thousands of objects we lend to others. New roles and new ways of working will enable successful delivery of exciting Masterplan projects at all the museums.
They are looking for someone to lead delivery of an efficient new approach to digitisation and documentation of SMG’ s collection, making it more accessible and accountable. The Digitisation Manager will manage photographic and documentation teams to support the Museums’ strategic objectives through best practice collections Management, they will also be expected to maximise the information available to online visitors, researchers and colleagues, and oversee internal standards and training. They will advocate for digitisation and collections information and ensure delivery of an excellent standard of communication and customer service, as well as develop a culture of integrated teamwork (including volunteers) and continuous improvement across SMG sites, in line with the ‘one collection’ philosophy, and they will be a member of the Collections Services leadership team.
