The Subject Specialist Network (SSN) for Islamic Art and Material Culture is hosting its next study day on Thursday 30th June at New Walk Museum and Art Gallery, Leicester. The theme of the event is Islamic Textiles, Dress and Fashion.
Led by Dr Malika Kraamer, Curator of World Arts at Leicester Arts and Museums Service, the study day gives a great opportunity to learn about Islamic textiles and contemporary styles of dress from leading curators, academics and local fashion designers. The first part of the day includes presentations on histories of Islamic textiles and object handling of Leicester’s Gujarati Islamic dress collection. The second part of the day focuses on contemporary Islamic fashion in the Middle East and modesty fashion in the UK. What do we mean by Islamic fashion and how do we collect it? The day offers fascinating presentations, discussions, object handling and networking opportunities.
