Salary: £23,935 to £27,394 (bar at £26,556)
Permanent Full Time Contract (35 Hours)

Art and ideas. From across the world, and from across centuries. From historic masterpieces to some of the most compelling artists working today. In an iconic building found at the heart of Manchester, and which is part of the creative and political life of one of the UK’s most dynamic cities.

Alongside their exhibitions Manchester Art Gallery run events that range from feminist ‘takeovers’ to wellbeing sessions, political debate and creative workshops, via award-winning family, community and schools programmes. The gallery welcomes over half a million visitors each year, making them one of the most popular galleries in the region. They engage 60,000 learners each year, including 28,000 family members. And have recently been shortlisted for Kids in Museums’ Family Friendly Museum Award 2016.

Manchester Art Gallery are recruiting a family learning manager to oversee, run and develop their family programme in line with the gallery, the city and our stakeholder’s objectives.

The family learning manager will manage a programme that includes baby and mini art clubs, family art weekends, holiday activities, and sessions for families with autistic children. In addition they will oversee the Clore Art Studio where MAG are developing open-ended art experiences for families and other visitors that deepen understanding and knowledge around our collections and exhibitions.

The successful candidate will be expected to manage budgets, extend MAG’s profile and marketing reach, develop a team of free lance creative practitioners, join a busy learning team and contribute to wider gallery objectives.

They will have experience of delivering creative art-based activities to mixed age family groups within a cultural setting, knowledge of early years’ pedagogy and contemporary family learning practice within museums and galleries.And they must be willing to work some holiday periods and occasional weekends.
