Salary: £22,000 per annum
Closing date: 24th October 2016
Port Sunlight Village Trust is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the Port Sunlight Conservation Area. The village is the finest surviving example of early urban planning in the UK. It is one of the Liverpool City Region’s premier visitor attractions and home to over 2,000 residents.
An independent charity established in 1999, the trust maintains all of the parks, gardens, and monuments and memorials in the village. It owns one-third of the housing stock – some 300 properties – and eight of the public buildings from which it derives its primary source of income. It also operates the award-winning Arts Council Accredited Port Sunlight Museum through which it engages local schools, domestic and international visitors, and the local community.
It is seeking to recruit a Heritage Officer to play a leading role in the Trust’s Heritage department. This is a brand new post and one that will contribute towards the Trust’s future strategic direction.
You will be responsible for curating the Trust’s story, including:
- Care, management and growth of the Trust’s permanent collection
- Development of a new business archive to support all areas of the Trust’s work
- Maintenance and development of its permanent displays at Port Sunlight Museum
- Programming of the special exhibitions space and delivery of associated events and activities
- Development and implementation of a digital media strategy
The post holder will support the Trust’s fundraising activity, as well as the Arts Council England project ‘The role of the museum in the resilience of Port Sunlight’.
You will engage with a wide range of people from volunteers and tour guides to visitors and the media, and you will work across all departments at the Trust.
Experience of working in museums and the heritage sector is essential, as is a relevant degree and a postgraduate qualification. You will need to demonstrate a keen interest in Port Sunlight, excellent communication skills, and a people focussed approach. We are looking for a self-starter who wants to make a difference and relishes a challenge.
