York Minster’s impressive accredited collection is a powerful connection to our past and an important tool to inspire and challenge people to explore our relevance today and in the future.  Through Cathedral Collections: Unlocking Spiritual Capital, supported by Arts Council England’s Museum Resilience Fund, they are seeking to better understand this significant resource and share it more widely. To support this work they are currently advertising three vacancies within their Collections Department.

Collections Assistant
Full Time Fixed Term Contract (until 31 March 2018)
Salary: £16,062.23 per annum

The Collections Assistant will play a key part by ensuring the project runs smoothly.  They will provide administrative support to project staff helping to convene meetings and prepare for sessions, workshops and conferences.  They will also assist the Collections Development Officer by preparing objects for assessment and supervising when necessary.  You will be responsible for updating catalogue records with the findings from these assessments and ensuring they are consistent so they are ready to be made available online. You will also create the project archive ensuring their work is captured to inform future projects.

Collections Development Officer
Full Time Fixed Term Contract (until 31 March 2018)
Salary: £22,686.00 per annum.
Closing date: Sunday 30 October 2016 

The Collections Development Officer will play a key role in transforming the way York Minster manage and share their collection.  To improve their knowledge, they will appoint and oversee collection specialists to undertake significance assessments.  You will also establish a research community to help them gain new insights into their objects and narrative.  They will use these findings to increase access to the collection by making their improved catalogue records available online.  They will also work alongside the Collections Engagement Officer to ensure their new insight reaches all areas of the public offer.

Collections Engagement Officer
Full Time Fixed Term Contract (until 31 March 2018)
Salary: £22,686.00 per annum

The Collections Engagement Officer will be responsible for unlocking their findings and embedding them in the life of the cathedral.  Working alongside the Collections Development Officer, they will take the new interpretations from their significance assessments and network of Honorary Research Associates and make them accessible to all their audiences.  They will work with existing teams and community partners to develop new sessions and resources that place objects at the heart of York Minster’s offers.  They will also contribute to refreshing their pre, during and post visit offer.  Finally, they will be an advocate for the project and actively work to share their learning with other places of worship.
