Volunteering in Museums in the 21st Century

Volunteer Makers is a national programme showcasing a new model of volunteer engagement supported by Arts Council England.  This new model brings together volunteering and public participation with audience development, marketing and digital to create meaningful relationships (and a value exchange) with these 21st century volunteers.  The landscape for attracting and keeping volunteers is changing, while current funding models mean that volunteers have become even more key to driving forward a museum’s vision and sustainability.

Volunteer Makers are looking for people to complete two surveys looking at different things.

In Survey 1 they are looking to showcase examples of current volunteering, particularly where there is a blending of volunteering activity:

With marketing and digital
Where museums are working with different types of volunteers of various ages and backgrounds
Where the volunteer activities are short term (micro-volunteering), long term and one off projects.

Via survey 2 they want to find out from you what volunteering means to you and how you are currently volunteering. This feedback will help us to deliver the best support to museums to help them with their volunteer engagement.
