Consultant Opportunities – Paths to the Future, Lancaster Medical Museum Working Group

The Lancaster Medical Museum Working Group has been in existence since the late 1980s. It exists to ensure the significant history of the area’s medical history is widely known for current and future generations. The Working Group is predominantly made up of current and retired medical professionals from the area. As a group they have collected together artefacts, ephemera and publications that reflect that history and have unequalled expert knowledge of the locality’s medical history.

The group is actively seeking a sustainable future for the collections and the history they reflect. They are keen to ensure the collections are used in a wide range of ways in order to ensure the area’s medical history is understood and shared across communities. In addition to creative – and safe – ways of using the collections, the Working Group is looking to review its governance in order to welcome and actively involve community members.

An application to the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Resilient Heritage grant scheme has enabled this important work to take place around Community Engagement and Governance. It will produce recommendations that will ensure the sustainability of the Working Group and its endeavours.
