Would you like to work in with Manchester Museum in partnership with the Manchester BME Network, Royal Exchange Theatre and Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Race Relations Resource Centre on our Memories of Partition project?
‘Memories of Partition’ is an 18-month project which aims to capture the collective memory of those affected by the 1947 Partition of India into independent nations of India and Pakistan (and subsequently Bangladesh in 1971). Working closely with local communities in Manchester, the project will combine oral history, social research, documentary film-making and creative interpretation, to enable members of those communities to share their stories with a wider public through an exhibition in Manchester Museum in August 2017.
Timed to coincide with the 70th anniversary of Independence and Partition in August 2017, the project seeks to encourage greater public understanding of the historic and contemporary significance of Partition on Manchester and its diverse South Asian communities.
Based at Manchester Museum, the project co-ordinator will liaise with the project partners and community groups to identify participants who are willing to share personal or family histories. Leading on the collecting and recording of these histories you will work with the team to document and display the outcomes in the exhibition in Manchester Museum.
This post is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
