Tameside Cultural Services are recruiting for two roles: Assistant Curator and Local Studies & Archives Manager

Assistant Curator
Location: Portland Basin Museum, Ashton-under-Lyne
Full Time 36 Hours
2 year Fixed Contract subject to specific project
Salary: Grade F £21,962 – £24,964

This is an exciting opportunity to work across a range of museum and gallery sites within the borough of Tameside.

Tameside Museums and Galleries Service, which is part of Tameside MBC, runs Portland Basin Museum (Ashton-under-Lyne), Central Art Gallery (Ashton-under-Lyne), Astley-Cheetham Art Gallery (Stalybridge) and Heginbottom Mill (Museum Stores). The service also runs the Museum of the Manchester Regiment (Ashton-under-Lyne) which is currently closed for redevelopment.

The Museums Manager has day to day responsibility for the management of the Museum Service and the Curator has day to day responsibility for all collections and related issues.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Curator, under the supervision of the Museums Manager, to assist with the programming and delivery of exhibitions across all sites. This will involve interpreting the collections in exciting, innovative and engaging ways, as well as making contact and liaising with artists. Promoting the collections through social media will also be a key part of the job.

Local Studies and Archive Manager
36 hours per week, Permanent
Salary Grade H Point 33 £29,323 to Point 37 £32,486
Located at Tameside Central Library, Old Street, Ashton-under-Lyne, OL6 7SG

We have an exciting opportunity for an archivist to join our Cultural Services team based at the Tameside Local Studies and Archives Centre in Ashton-under-Lyne.
The post holder will play a key role in the operation and development of service delivery including working towards:

• Archive Accreditation
• Providing advice and guidance to researchers
• Depositors/owners
• Volunteers and colleagues
• Leading collections work including appraisal
• Accessioning and cataloguing
• Assisting with developing and delivering learning and outreach activities
• Working as part of the Greater Manchester Archives and Local Studies Partnership

This post is a designated customer facing role under the fluency duty and requires a specified level of spoken English in the person specification.
